US vs UK fluid ounces

A US fluid ounce is 1/128 US gallon; a UK fluid ounce is 1/160 UK gallon. The UK ounce is about 4% smaller, so 100 mL is 3.38 US fl oz or 3.52 UK fl oz. Switch the unit menu to “fl oz (UK)” for imperial values.

Common mistakes

Mixing fluid ounces with weight ounces. 8 fl oz of flour doesn’t weigh 8 oz.

Assuming 30 mL per ounce. Many medicine cups use 30 mL as 1 oz; for recipes and labeling, 29.57 mL is exact.

For the reverse, use fluid ounces to mL.
